Careers in semiconductor equipment service and refurbishment
Hands-on work refurbishing, upgrading and installing semiconductor process tools, from our base in Dordrecht and at customer sites.
The work
At SemiXperts, the work is the tools. Our engineers inspect used semiconductor equipment, take it apart, find what is worn or broken, rebuild it and prove it works again. Then they crate it, ship it and install it in the buyer's cleanroom, and train the people who will run it.
The tools cover most of a semiconductor process line: mask aligners and steppers, plasma etchers, sputter and evaporation systems, CVD and ALD reactors, furnaces, implanters, wet benches, CMP, metrology and packaging equipment. Most are 50–200 mm platforms built in the 1990s and 2000s, which means real engineering problems: undocumented modifications, obsolete electronics, parts that no longer exist and have to be repaired, reverse-engineered or replaced with a modern equivalent.
Typical tasks include:
- Inspecting incoming tools against their original specification and writing the inspection report
- Leak checking and rebuilding vacuum systems, replacing seals, pumps and gauges
- Diagnosing RF generators, matching networks and power supplies
- Restoring interlocks and safety circuits
- Retrofitting control systems and light sources
- Running test processes and recording the results
- De-installing, crating and installing tools at customer sites
Who we look for
We are interested in hearing from people with hands-on experience in one or more of these areas:
- Field service and equipment engineering on semiconductor, MEMS, display or solar process tools
- Vacuum technology: pumps, leak detection, chamber cleaning and assembly
- Electronics and power: RF, high-voltage supplies, PLCs, motion control and fault finding on older control electronics
- Process engineering in lithography, etch, deposition or thermal processing, especially if you enjoy working on the tool as much as the recipe
- Mechanical work and rigging: precision assembly, crating, moving heavy equipment safely
Cleanroom discipline, careful documentation and the habit of writing down what you measured are as important as technical skill. Every tool we sell comes with a report, and that report is only as good as the notes behind it.
What the job involves day to day
Refurbishment happens at our base or at the tool's site, depending on scope. Inspection, de-installation and installation happen at the seller's or buyer's site, so roles that include field work involve travel, sometimes at short notice and sometimes outside the Netherlands. Work on process tools means working safely around vacuum, high voltage, RF, process gases and chemical residues; we expect everyone to follow lock-out procedures and decontamination rules without exception.
Read our refurbishment and installation service pages for a closer look at the work you would be doing.
Current openings
When we have open positions, we list them on this page with the role, location and what we are looking for. We also welcome open applications at any time.
How to apply
Send a short note and your CV to info@semixperts.com. Tell us:
- Which tools, platforms or systems you have worked on, and in what role
- Whether you are looking for field work, work at our base or a mix
- Where you are based and whether you can travel
- When you could start
We read every application. If you prefer to ask a question first, use the contact form.
Questions and answers
Do you accept open applications?
Yes. Send a short note and your CV to info@semixperts.com, saying which tools and systems you have worked on and what kind of work you are looking for.
Do I need a semiconductor background?
It helps, but it is not the only route. Experience with vacuum, RF, high-voltage, motion control or industrial automation transfers well to process tools.
Do you offer internships or thesis projects?
Contact us with your study programme, the period you are available and the topic you have in mind, and we will tell you whether we can support it.
Looking for a specific tool?
Tell us the process, wafer size and facilities. We shortlist tools that fit and send an inspection report with every offer.
